*普京:伊朗愿意加入核谈判
俄罗斯总统普京说,伊朗对国际社会为中止敏感核项目并参加核项目谈判而提出
的鼓励措施做出了积极的反应。普京星期四在与伊朗总统艾哈迈迪内贾德在中国

Putin: Iran Ready to Enter Talks
Russian President Vladimir Putin says Iran is responding positively to an
international incentives offer to suspend sensitive nuclear work and enter
negotiations on its nuclear program. Putin spoke after meeting Iranian
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Thursday on the sidelines of a Central Asian summit
in China. Mr. Putin says Iran is ready to enter talks in the near future.
Mr. Putin says Iran has a right to nuclear energy but must address concerns
of the international community about the intentions of its program.
Mr. Ahmadinejad called for Central Asian nations to support his country
in the international dispute over its nuclear program. He said Iran is
facing "aggressive interference" by "domineering powers" in the West. The
developments come as the 35-nation board of the International Atomic Energy Agency is
discussing Iran's nuclear program.

Iraqi Security Advisor: Al-Qaida in Iraq Facing its End
Iraq's National Security Advisor Mowaffaq al-Rubaie says last week's
killing of terror leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi signals "the beginning of the end"
of al-Qaida in Iraq. Mowaffaq al-Rubaie says information found with Zarqawi
gives Iraqi security forces the edge over the terror group. He says the
documents show the locations of terrorist leaders, weapons and how the
group is run.
Al-Qaida in Iraq has vowed to carry out more attacks. The U.S. military
says it believes the group's new leader Abu Hamza al-Muhajer is probably
an alias for Abu Ayyub al-Masri, an Egyptian closely tied to Zarqawi.
In other developments Thursday, Iraqi police say gunmen killed 10 laborers
as they headed to work in Baquba. In Tikrit, gunmen attacked a mosque,
killing four Sunni Arabs. |
