Russia Urges Iran to Stop Enriching Uranium

Russia is again urging Iran to stop uranium enrichment to end the
international standoff over its nuclear program.  Russian Foreign
Minister Sergei Lavrov says the world wants to see urgent and concrete
steps from Iran. He spoke on the sidelines of a meeting of envoys from
the Group of Eight major industrialized nations today (Wednesday) in Moscow.

On Tuesday, top officials from the five permanent members of the U.N.
Security Council and Germany met on Iran, but failed to agree on whether
to push for sanctions.  Russia and China still oppose sanctions,
preferring instead for the International Atomic Energy Agency to
handle the issue.

The series of meetings come a week before the full U.N. Security Council
is to hear an I.A.E.A. report on Iran.

Chinese President Tours Boeing Plant Today

Chinese President Hu Jintao is to tour a manufacturing plant of the
aviation giant Boeing today (Wednesday) as part of his four-day visit
to the United States.  His visit to the plant in the northwestern
state of Washington comes days after Beijing announced a deal to
purchase 80 Boeing jets valued at around five-billion dollars.  Mr. Hu
arrived in Washington state Tuesday and toured the headquarters of
U.S. computer software giant Microsoft with company founder Bill Gates.

Hu Jintao travels to Washington D.C. later today, and meets Thursday
with President Bush at the White House. Those talks are expected to
focus on U.S. demands that China reform its currency, China's human
rights record, trade, and the nuclear programs of North Korea and Iran.
